Detailed Description

Diary entry of Thomas Sallans
1885

Despite the superior fighting tactics of the Métis, federal troops with their better weapons and ammunition supplies eventually subdued the rebels and their Indian allies over a three-month period. However, the cost was high  -  at least 200 lives were lost and $6 million charged to the Canadian treasury. In this diary entry, Thomas Sallans describes an encounter with some of the Métis prisoners who were on their way to Regina to face trial.
