Piegan Indians

1871, by Charles Horetzky

Horetzky photographed some Piegan Indians outside Rocky Mountain House, southwest of Edmonton. In his final report, Horetzky advocated a railway route to the Pacific through a pass some distance further north of Rocky Mountain House at Pine River. The chief engineer of the Canadian Pacific Railway, Sandford Fleming, rejected the proposal in favour of a more southerly route.
