Immigration to western Canada was actively promoted
in American trade shows and farm exhibitions. Since
the people attending these events usually had a rural
background, it was thought that they would be somewhat
more receptive than their urban counterparts to the
idea of immigrating to western Canada. Such attempts
at targeting specific audiences with a specific message
were entirely new to advertising when Canada started
its immigration campaign.
